HF Radio offers all the communication methods we will be using other than Web browsing.

Telephony:  The HF Radio’s keypad will enable the operator to dial a telephone number that will be connected via a modem at the Connect Africa base station. Although there will be a delay in the conversation, this is a simple and very cost effective method of making calls from very remote regions without having to use a satellite connection.

Email, Fax & Data transmission: The HF radio can be connected to a computer to send and receive data, faxes and email. At only 9 Kbps this is slow but acceptable in deep rural areas where no communication facilities exist.

Radio:  With a range of up to 1500KM, HF Radio offers a cost efficient and effective means of communication from vehicle to vehicle and vehicle to base. It is proposed that a series of Radio Hubs will be established in each region that Connect Africa operates in and an HF Radio network be used for day to day communication across Africa.
